🥋 1. The 4-Button Limb System
Unlike 2D fighters that use Light/Medium/Heavy buttons, Tekken maps each button to a specific limb of your character:
- □ Square: Left punch — written
1in guides - △ Triangle: Right punch — written
2 - ✕ Cross: Left kick — written
3 - ○ Circle: Right kick — written
4
Two buttons at once are written with a plus sign: 1+2 is both punches (□+△), 3+4 is both kicks (✕+○).
Those numbers are worth learning — every frame-data site, YouTube guide and player online writes moves that way, so they are how you read any tutorial you find.
🏃 2. 3D Movement & Defense
Tekken is a 3D fighter — moving around your opponent is just as important as striking:
- Blocking High & Mid: Hold
Back (b). High and mid attacks are completely neutralized. - Crouching Lows: Hold
Down-Back (db). Low sweeps are blocked, and high strikes pass harmlessly over your head. - Sidestepping: Double-tap
Up (u)orDown (d)to step into the 3D background or foreground. Use this when an opponent uses predictable, linear forward strikes.
🔥 3. The Tekken 8 Heat Engine
Every round, your character begins with a full Heat Bar (blue meter under your health):
- Heat Burst (
2+2+2+2orR1): An armored mid smash that activates Heat immediately and interrupts enemy attacks. - Heat Engager: Landing specific signature strikes activates Heat automatically and charges forward with massive frame advantage.
- Heat Smash (
R1during Heat): A cinematic super strike that consumes your remaining Heat for huge damage.
💥 4. Rage Art Comebacks
When your health drops below 25%, your health bar catches fire with Rage:
- Your regular attacks deal 10% more damage.
- Press
R2(ordf+1+2) to execute your Rage Art. It absorbs incoming hits with armor and lands a high-damage cinematic finisher.
