Tekken is a 3D fighting game played on a 2D plane with 3D sidestepping. Each face button controls one limb: □ Square is left punch, △ Triangle is right punch, ✕ Cross is left kick, ○ Circle is right kick. Block by holding back, duck under high strikes by holding down-back, and punish whiffs when opponents miss in neutral.
Your first hour
Head to Practice Mode first. Switch control display to 'Simple / Special Style' or classic Arcade notation. Drill three essential fundamentals: 1) Sidestep into block, 2) Forward-dash into your character's standard mid poke (usually df+1), and 3) A simple 4-hit launcher juggle combo.
Your first character
Don't pick based on tier lists — pick a character with a straightforward battle plan. We recommend Jin (balanced all-rounder), Paul (massive strike damage with simple inputs), or Claudio (focused toolset with blazing fast homing attacks).
Your first match
In UGL, all regional qualifier games are Best-of-3 (Bo3) matches, with 3 rounds per game and a 60-second timer. The winner of Game 1 must keep their character, while the loser may switch characters or pick a preferred arena stage.
